This is my homage to American Beach
About American Beach
American Beach is a historic beach community on Amelia Island, Florida, north of Jacksonville. It was founded in 1935 by Abraham Lincoln Lewis, Florida's first Black millionaire, as a vacation destination for African Americans who were denied access to other resorts during segregation. The beach became a popular destination in the 1950s, and its nightclub scene attracted celebrities like Duke Ellington, Joe Lewis, Hank Aaron, Ray Charles, and James Brown.
About the Photo Series:
"American beach Nostalgia" was created in 2020 when I noticed that a lot of the older, dilapidated buildings on American Beach were going to be demolished and replaced with codos. Such is progress and it is not my intent to shame that.
I wanted to project a certain feeling that comes over you when nostalgia is pulling you one way but you know that you must move forward.
The model embodies the spirit and nostalgia of the memories, laughter, flavors, jokes and togetherness of the buildings and their surroundings.
None of those buildings stand anymore, they have been replaced with new buildings that will fill with all of those scrumptious nuances of life.
About the prints:
Each print is 11X14
Each print will be signed and numbered. The amount of prints is limited to 50 per image. Once they all have been sold there will be no other copies.
